LET’S GIVE THE PERFECT CHRISTMAS GIFT: A LETS GIFT VOUCHER!
Dorchester & South Dorset LETS are very pleased to now offer all our members LETS Gift Vouchers for any value of marts you wish to give!

It’s simple! You ‘buy’ a Gift Voucher for whatever value of marts you wish, and give it to whoever you want so THE RECIPIENT CAN CHOOSE WHAT THEY WANT, WHEN THEY WANT as long as it’s offered in our LETS Directory. For example they might like a Massage, a Garden Gang or some honey! PLUS THE RECIPIENT DOESN’T HAVE TO BE A LETS MEMBER – because you will have paid marts in advance on their behalf (although we hope they decide to join themselves one day too!).
Please email jenny@dorchester-lets.co.uk ASAP to order your Gift Vouchers in time for Christmas 2009, or for any questions.

Supporters of the new group 'Compassionate Dorset' include LETS members (from left to right) Stu Jones, Susie Hosford (Dorchester Town Mayor), Anna Celeste Watson, Sandra Hood with her partner Jerry Nash and (hopefully!) soon-to-be LETS member Anya Pearson (of local ethical fashion label Frank & Faith) at Dorchester Library in December - asking locals to "Make it a Compassionate Christmas"!
As all LETS groups are promoted as local sustainable communities, we thought you may like to know that a few members of Dorchester & South Dorset LETS including your Web Manager Anna Celeste Watson and Vegan Cook Sandra Hood, have also just set-up a new local group called ‘Compassionate Dorset’ promoting animal welfare across the county but based in Dorchester, with particular concerns for farm animals and YOUR food!
Please make use of LETS to choose organic and free range foods whether it be meat, dairy, honey, veggies and herbs, or be really green for the planet and try the delicious vegetarian and vegan cooking on LETS including Sandra Hood’s yummy Christmas Yule Chocolate Log! : )
Visit Compassion in World Farming’s (CIWF) website on www.ciwf.org.uk for ideas on having a more compassionate Christmas free from factory-farmed animal products. Visit The Vegan Society website on www.vegansociety.com or the Vegetarian Society on www.vegsoc.org for resources on animal-free food and products.

BLITZ-IT DAYS UPDATE
By Blitz-IT Co-ordinator Justin Oakley

Starting in January, the third Sunday in each month is to be reserved as Blitz-It Day. This will enable us to concentrate more on helping others get those larger jobs done that need a number of people to do them or a special knowledge or skill.
If this proves popular both in terms of members needing and offering help then a number of Blitz-It Teams may be operating on these special days.
Members needing work carried out can request ahead that they will need a Blitz-It Team and we can all concentrate on helping them on their special Blitz-It Day. In order for this to work well it is hoped that members will work up towards these days and free their time up by asking other members to do jobs for you that you would normally have to do yourself.
We already have a number of people who need help in 2010. If you are good at painting walls or gardening then please contact me.
Ideas for a Blitz-It Gang include Spring Cleaning, Gardening, Moving and De-Junking.
The first four Blitz-It Days for 2010 are: January 17th, February 21st, March 21st and April 18th so contact me to either request a Blitz-It Team or to offer your help to help others. LETS make this a regular event in our diaries.
Justin would like to invite you to join one, or more, of the LETS Blitz-It Gangs to help members tackle those jobs, big and small, that they either cannot do themselves, put off until another day or just do not have the time for; we all have them.We have had loads of requests for Blitz-It Gangs already so now need more helpers as demand outweighs supply!
I look forward to hearing from you soon.

The End of the World is Nigh!
The World is quickly coming to an end
With global warming finishing us off.
Politicians drive us round the bend
And bankers are a group at whom we scoff.
We get involved in wars we cannot win
For reasons that our leaders can’t explain.
Our fourth war in Afghanistan’s a sin:
There’ll never be a benefit or gain.
The one redeeming feature that I see
As round the stricken World I cast my gaze
Is all the folk who interact with me
And blithely help to lighten up my days.
With loving kindness, harmony and mirth,
Such people are the saviours of the Earth!

The Dorset Countryside in Autumn
The Dorset countryside is getting grey
With clouds and fog and misty cobwebbed trees
And as you walk your favourite right of way
You shuffle ankle deep through fallen leaves.
The devil spits on blackb’ries at this time
And frosts ensure the end of ling’ring flowers
But sloes there are for gin and pies and wine
And fungi in the fields untouched by mowers.
The tourists no more stalk the coastal path
In numbers as they did a while ago;
Instead they toast their toes before the hearth
Until the hours of sunshine once more grow.
The mellow Dorset person likes it best:
This season man and nature take a rest.
