VEGGIE COOKING BY SANDRA HOOD

Sadly, no LETS members took advantage of professional Dietitian Sandra Hood’s recent Vegan Cooking Workshop in May so although she still had other participants, LETS missed out!

Many members (especially the Core Group!) do regularly indulge in her cooking though – sometimes for healthy food and sometimes for naughty choccy cake – so if you couldn’t make it this time, Sandra is always available to make food to order and says that;

“Some of my most popular dishes include Lasagne (made with brown lentils), Nut Loaf & Nut Rissoles, Lentil Rissoles & Lentil Slices, Shepherds Pie (with soya mince or nuts), Vegetable Stew, Vegetable Curry, Chocolate Cake and Cheesecake”.

Nick Ashron is certainly enjoying the chocolate cake that Anna Celeste Watson ordered from Sandra for him for Father’s Day – as you can see below!!! : )

Vegan food isn’t just for vegans or vegetarians or even the health-conscious either – it’s for everyone who wants some yummy food made by someone else for parties and special occasions, or for the freezer for those lazy days when you don’t want to cook yourself. Sandra would love to earn more marts so please place your orders now!

Vegan cooking is fish-free and meat-free vegetarian food that is also free from any animal derived ingredients including; eggs, milk and honey. If you wish to cut down or even stop eating animal products, or you have a dairy allergy for example, or simply wish to eat healthier food, then there are many animal-free alternatives to use in cooking including; soya milk products, soya mince, tofu, vegetable margerine - and the list is actually endless. Vegetarian and vegan food can be very healthy but it can also be very tasty and fun too!

National Vegetarian Week (NVW) is the annual awareness-raising campaign promoting inspirational vegetarian food and the benefits of a meat-free lifestyle.

Celebrated by The Vegetarian Society since 1992, the Week is now an established event and everyone from small businesses to big corporations, schools, community groups and individuals are welcome to come on board and make the week a success. Why not sign up to the ‘Veggie Pledge’ and let everybody know what you’re committing to do for the Week – this might be anything from trying a veggie meal, to going veggie for the day, week, month, year… or even for life! Or of course simply attend Sandra’s Vegetarian/Vegan Cookery Workshop! Perhaps you’re already veggie and can pledge to talk to friends and family about the reasons for going veggie? Or you may consider going Vegan like Sandra and not using any animal products – meat, eggs or dairy.

Make Your Own Christmas Door Wreath Workshop with LETS Member Sabine Bale

Sabine and Jenny making their Christmas Door Wreaths!

Sabine and Jenny making their Christmas Door Wreaths!

LETS member and Florist Sabine Bale hosted 2 half day workshops to help other LETS members make their own Christmas Door Wreaths at her home in Dorchester on Sunday 23rd November.

The workshops cost 10 marts each.

Members brought their our own foliage, decorations and tools to work with – check out the photo of Sabine with Jenny!

“My offer of having a workshop for Christmas Door-Wreath Making last November was taken up by two lady members and a friend in the morning. They got on very well with the techniques. Another lady came in the afternoon session with whom I concentrated mostly on decorations. We all enjoyed the day. Eleanor Gallia and I plan to have the next floristry session at her place because of the excellent facilities, foliage and space! We’re looking forward to inviting you for more fun and designs in November 2009.”
